Job Summary:
We are seeking responsible, dedicated teachers for our Summer Camp programs beginning late June 2023. Sunset Theatre Company’s Musical Theatre Summer Camps are offered in Bloomfield Hills, West Bloomfield, Walled Lake, Huron Valley and Plymouth Canton. We are seeking a director to direct and run a camp of 10-30 students on average as well as summer camp teachers to assist the director and teach at the camp. Age range of campers is 7-14. Directors duties will include directing an abridged musical, collaborating with staff to choreograph, teach songs, block, and cast the show. Teachers duties will include collaborating with staff to choreograph, teach songs, block and cast the show. Campers arrive on Monday and perform on Friday afternoon of the same week.
Each camp session lasts 5 days.
Sunset Theatre Company will provide you with scripts, music, camp free time toys, and curriculum. Sunset will be the liaison to parents and the district whenever needed or necessary.
Hours: 8:45am - 3:15pm Monday through Friday No Weekend Hours or Extra Time Required.
Duties/Responsibilities:
-Attend via Zoom a summer planning meeting
-Be on time
-Know how to cast and appropriately direct an abridged musical for this age group
-Be able to lead acting, dance, or voice classes
-Push your students to be excellent
-Have a performance in front of parents and families on the last afternoon of camp
-Oversee campers, including: taking attendance, maintaining a strong learning environment, escorting to bathroom and water breaks, maintain snack and lunch schedule, keep campers safe and addressing disciplinary issues as needed in accordance with STC’s policies
-Clean up the space after each day. May include sweeping and wiping down lunch tables
-Follow STC’s camp schedule and theme days
-Follow company and school district rules
Required Skills/Abilities:
-Portable bluetooth speaker
-Teaching experience with ages 5-14 in an educational setting and musical theatre experience
-Education or Theatre Degree preferred but not required.

We have both after school enrichment classes, preschool classes as well as studio classes. Our company focuses on Musical Theatre. We believe that every student and child should have the opportunity to experience the performing arts. Whether they are experienced or not they will learn the tools they need to succeed. Most of all we want our students to have fun. We want them to always remember the time they spent with Sunset Theatre Company and to always have an appreciation for Theatre.
Arts education is a very important element in schools today. We follow the Michigan Performing Arts Standards in our curriculum. We use an abridged script as well as various techniques and games to educate students and stress the process of theatre. The camp culminates in a performance for family and friends to allow the students to show off many of the skills they were working on during the term.
