1984 Ibanez Roadstar Bass RB920 Model

$ 650.00
Description
February of 1984 produced Ibanez Roadstar II RB920 bass, these are high quality Japanese basses made with great woods (ash/maple/rosewood), quality pickups and hardware.

I have owned a few other Roadstar basses , RB630 and RB650 over the years which are closer to Fenders in styling. These 920RB models are rarer to find and this one has a very beautiful birdseye maple top. This has a single “Super J6” pick-up that is wired to a three way switch. This give you Humbucker, Parallel Coils or Single coil, which aids the tones you can get, very nicely. This is a passive bass and the pick-up is in a sweet spot so there is plenty of "Bark" and just the right amount of depth. The 2 knobs are master volume and tone.

The body is finished in a beautiful tobacco sunburst. This has a maple top and this select piece of wood has some very unique and nice looking birdseye to the maple, very nice top. The body looks great with the cream binding and figured top. The finish on the top is very clean for its age. The back is solid black and has some wear- the back of the upper horn has some dents, also the bottom back edge has some finish chipped off- both areas are photographed. The neck is maple with a rosewood fretboard. The headstock has a crack at the E string tuner. I’ve had some Fenders suffer the same fate. It doesn’t go through the neck, about 1/4 of the way. It’s a very tight crack and stable. It appears it originates from the tuning machines mounting screw hole. The rest of the rear of the neck is very clean and feels great with a satin finish gloss. This has the original “heart” shaped Ibanez tuners which are quality components. The frets are in good shape with nearly no wear to them. For whatever reason the fretboard has some dent/grooving at the second fret position , the fret itself is fine but the rosewood at that position has been dented a bit, but doesn’t affect playing. This has the cool 2x2 headstock and the silver Ibanez logo has remained vibrant. I have personally been there when the bass was set up and the truss rod turns with ease and correctly. The neck is well adjusted right now and plays without any buzz. All original ibanez hardware which is quality stuff. The tuners are sturdy units and the bridge is an ibanez Accu-Cast BII. Very cool original design by ibanez that allows for quick release stringing, you don’t have to pull the string through the entire bridge. These RB920s aren’t common and the other one on reverb is cosmetically more pristine but it doesn’t have the birdseye this top has and it’s $995+$85 shipping.

These photos were taken the day after I oiled the fretboard. It’s recently been given a full polish , all electronics cleaned with deoxit, fret polish and general adjustments. While having some cosmetic wear, it is clean and not a grimy used CL bass as they so often are-Its ready for another 4 decades of use.

I do not have a case for it
