About the Opportunity

Avalon has an opportunity for a full-time Senior Financial Analyst to join their team. This position is based at our Calgary, AB office. 

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting multiple business units and executive leadership in making strategic decisions
  • Performing a range of cost account and project accounting tasks, including calculating the percentage of completion and revenue recognition
  • Reviewing and investigating discrepancies, and correcting transactions as needed
  • Assisting with the annual budget
  • Preparing accurate and high-quality monthly, quarterly, and annual internal and external investor reports
  • Preparing the quarterly management discussion and analysis
  • Reviewing information for accuracy, including but not limited to tying information to backups and checking for arithmetical accuracy
  • Compiling and analyzing financial information for business units and performing variance analysis for the monthly reporting package
  • Preparing year-end working papers and schedules for the annual financial audit
  • Calculating complex financial entries, including asset retirement obligations, depletion, and foreign exchange
  • Identifying opportunities to automate, streamline, and further develop reporting processes
  • Researching and resolving accounting issues, including evaluating and implementing new accounting standards to ensure compliance
  • Providing support, coordination, addressing and responding to queries from auditors and internal reviewers, while taking ownership of issues and ensuring a timely and successful resolution
  • Building and maintaining analysis, models, or dashboards to support sales forecasting, economic optimization, process optimization, and performance management processes
  • Pursuing process improvement, developing process maps and instructional documentation

About You

To qualify ideally, you must have a Bachelor degree in Finance or Accounting and 5+ years experience as Financial Analyst. A Designated CPA or equivalent certification would be considered an asset.

The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:

  • Ability to analyze data and communicate the results to different stakeholder groups
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical skills, business intuition, and ability to build consensus across different business functions and stakeholders
